It is a prescription medicine used along with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes, alone or along with other antidiabetic medicines, and also to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes who have known cardiovascular disease.- it is not for people with type 1 diabetes.- it is not for people with diabetic ketoacidosis (increased ketones in blood or urine).- it is not recommended for children and adolescents (under 18 years of age).- it should not be used during pregnancy & breast-feeding.- do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney problems or are on dialysis.** mechanism of action?empagliflozin belongs to a class of drugs called sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (sglt2) inhibitors. it works by increasing the amount of sugar removed by the kidneys from your body through the urine. this reduces the amount of sugar in your blood.
