About mianserintetracyclic antidepressant, antidepressant, anxiolytic, hypnotic, antiemetic, orexigenic.mechanism of action of mianserinmianserin blocks the presynaptic alpha2 adrenergic receptors and increases the turnover of noradrenaline in the cns .it also blocks the serotonin receptors and also increases serotonin concentration. the increase in concentration of neurotransmitters in the cns produces antidepressant effect. mianserin also possess antihistamine activity.indications for mianserindepressioninteractions for mianserinalcohol: additive cns depression & hence alcohol to be avoided during treatment. maois: mianserin should not be administered concomitantly with or within 2 weeks of cessation of therapy with maois. anxiolytics and hypnotics: enhanced effect. antiepileptics: antagonism (convulsive threshold lowered)- reduced antidepressant effect (reduced plasma-mianserin concentration).
