Tilt Test

The tilt test consists of quickly passing the patient from a lying position to a near standing position (60 ° to 80 °), using a tilting table, for a period of 30 minutes, with continuous monitoring of BP and blood pressure. ECG. This maneuver results in redistribution of blood from the thorax to the lower limbs. It can cause reflex sympathetic system inhibition and vagal hypertension, resulting in inappropriate bradycardia and low blood pressure. The test therefore explores the susceptibility to vasovagal syncope. If it is initially negative, it can be sensitized with vasodilators (nitrated or isoprenaline). It is indicated in case of doubt about the mechanism of recurrent or severe syncope.
