The prick test (or skin prick test) is a skin test exploring sensitization to various allergens, mediated by specific immunoglobulins E (IgE) present on the surface of mast cells. It is a method for the medical diagnosis of allergies, by causing a controlled allergic reaction of small magnitude, similar to the intradermal reaction. The prick test is the first-line examination of the allergological assessment.
