Balloon spondyloplasty (kyphoplasty
Balloon spondyloplasty (kyphoplasty or SPB or spondyloplasty with expansion) consists of creating an intraosseous cavity in the vertebral body using two balloons inflated with radiopaque fluid, inserted transpedicularly. A cement is then injected into the cavity created, once the balloons have been removed. It would be offered as part of the treatment of osteoporotic and neoplastic vertebral compression fractures after failure of conventional medical treatment as well. as in the treatment of comminuted traumatic compression fractures in association with posterior fixation by open surgery.
