Intra-peritoneal chemo-hyperthermia

The curative treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis is based on tumor reduction surgery combined with intraperitoneal chemotherapy (that is, performed directly in the abdomen). The purpose of surgery is to remove all macroscopic carcinomatous disease visible to the surgeon. Intraperitoneal chemotherapy, always performed after surgery, aims to act on microscopic carcinomatous disease, that is, not visible to the surgeon (nodule less than 2 mm). The latter is in the majority of cases heated (around 43 ° C) and carried out at the same time as the surgery, it is then called intraperitoneal chemo-hyperthermia (CHIP).
