Etofenamateetofenamate is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (nsaid). nsaids relieve pain and reduce the inflammation and fever produced by the body s immune system. etofenamate has been successfully used for a number a years to treat patients with acute or chronic rheumatic diseases. rheumon gel, one product used to treat pain and swelling, contains 5% w/w etofenamate.etofenamate has analgesic, antirheumatic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties. it is a non-selective cox inhibitor. it works by blocking an enzyme in the body known as cyclo-oxygenase (cox). cyclo-oxygenase is involved in the production of numerous chemicals in the body, including those known as prostaglandins. prostaglandins are produced by the body in response to the presence of injury or disease and they make the nerves more sensitive to pain impulses. etofenamate inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, providing analgesic and anti-inflammatory relief.etofenamate in gel form is effective in treating arthritis
